The New England Office of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) presents the 36th annual Paul G. Keough Earth Artists Program for students in K-6. We hope you and your class will join other New England students and take this opportunity to participate in an environmental awareness project.

Do Your Students Have Great Ideas About How to Reduce Pollution?

Sample Earth Artist posterThis year EPA would like participants to focus on how our environmental problems should be addressed. We ask that students create posters and poems suggesting actions that they and others can take to increase awareness and protect the environment. For example, what can we do to save energy? Whatever notion they use, no matter how widely used or original, the goal is to get students thinking about the problem and then providing us with their solutions. While students can create an entry on any environmental theme, this year we encourage students to think about what they can do to save energy and try the solutions they come up with!

The Rules

Follow these simple rules to participate in the program:

  1. The program is for students in grades K-6.

  2. Teachers are encouraged to discuss environmental topics with their students that will lead the class to become aware of and focus on solutions to environmental problems. Environmental lessons should be given before initiating a class art or poetry project. The amount of time devoted to classroom activity is determined by each teacher.
