Molding and Potting Capabilities

UNICOR/FPI has extensive in-house tool and die capabilities to expertly handle virtually all types of molding and potting. We are highly skilled in molding and potting synthetic rubber, chemically cured compounds and thermoplastics to produce caps, covers, isolators, electrical connections, encapsulation and strain relief. Our work is accomplished with great precision and care to meet the most exacting military standards and the most demanding commercial requirements.

Our molded and potted products are used on cable assemblies, wire harnesses, off-the-shelf and custom connectors, plugs and electronic assemblies. They must perform repeatedly and reliably in harsh usage and environmental conditions for applications in tactical communications equipment, missiles and other ordnance, and on shipboard as well as in military, federal agency, emergency and security vehicles.

Extrusion Molding

UNICOR/FPI has a comprehensive inventory of extrusion molding tools to encapsulate cables. Our technicians are skilled at overmolding cable branches for transitions, backshells and breakouts to produce environmentally sealed assemblies.

Our extrusion capabilities encompass use of polyurethane, a thermoplastic polymer used in jackets for cables exposed to abrasion and solvents, and polyvinyl chloride, which is ideal for wire insulation.

We also have the capacity to create custom dies, allowing us to meet specific customer needs for extrusion moldings for electronic and electrical equipment.

Injection Molding and Potting

The skilled technicians at UNICOR/FPI are highly proficient at producing cured castings that have excellent water resistance, perform well in temperature extremes and have exceptional electrical properties.

We manufacture resin castings that have low shrinkage, low coefficients of expansion, resistance to mechanical and thermal shock, and excellent electrical properties. We also produce low exotherm epoxy pottings with excellent thermal shock resistance for use in transformers and electrical coils.

Synthetic Rubber

Synthetic rubber overmolding and jacketing are essential for wire and cable that will be subject to rugged conditions and hostile chemicals.

UNICOR/FPI has extensive experience in using elastomer overmolding for wire and cable strength, flexibility, strain relief and preparing cable ends for attachments.

We are also highly skilled at working with neoprene, a synthetic rubber for jacketing where wire and cable will be subject to rugged conditions, moisture, oil, grease, solvents and chemicals.
