On October 30th, Debbie Hutchinson (WHFC) participated in a meeting with Directors/Managers of research institutes, organizations, and agencies around the Gulf of Maine to discuss ways to participate in the Gulf of Maine Ocean Observing System (GOMOOS). The meeting was convened by Gerry Pesch, head of the Regional Association for Research on the Gulf of Maine (RARGOM), and hosted by the New England Aquarium.

About 40 participants spent the day discussing strategies for building on the GOMOOS initiative, which is primarily a multi-year program to build CODAR receivers around the Gulf of Maine for studying oceanographic processes. The USGS long-term buoy and time-series sediment traps in Massachusetts Bay are obvious contributors to the observing system. Discussions also included unifying and making accessible legacy data sets, such as the USGS Contaminated Sediments Database from the Gulf of Maine. Debbie also represented WRD offices in pointing out the data sets pertaining to stream gauging and water quality around the Gulf.
