Research Project: INTEGRATE GLOBAL SOIL MOISTURE REMOTE SENSING AND MODELING DATA INTO USDA'S GLOBAL CROP PRODUCTION DECISION SUPPORT SYSTEM

Location: Hydrology and Remote Sensing Laboratory

Project Number: 1265-13610-027-57
Project Type: Reimbursable

Start Date: Dec 01, 2005
End Date: Nov 30, 2008

Objective:
The proposed project aims at integrating NASA's global soil moisture remote sensing and modeling data products into the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Global Crop Production Decision Support System to improve their reliability and accuracy for forecasting crop yields.

Approach:
The proposed project will 1) systematically assimilate AMSR-E soil moisture data product into LDAS to generate and validate global sufrace and root zone soil moisture data products; 2) import these soil moisture data products into USDA-FAS' CADRE DBMS; 3) evaluate the benefits of using these soil moisture data products; and 4) streamline the data flow for operational.
