Research Project:
EFFECTS OF LAND SURFACE HETEROGENEITY ON REGIONAL FLUX ESTIMATION USING LARGE EDDY SIMULATION MODEL WITH REMOTE SENSING
Location: Hydrology and Remote Sensing Laboratory
Project Number: 1265-13610-027-41
Project Type:
Specific Cooperative Agreement
Start Date: Apr 12, 2005
End Date: Nov 30, 2009
Objective:
Evaluate the importance of landscape heterogeneity on surface-air state coupling and errors in assuming uniform atmospheric forcing in regional flux estimation for different landscapes and climatic conditions.
Approach:
Remote sensing and surface flux data will serve as boundary conditions for a Large Eddy, simulation (LES) model simulating three dimensional turbulent flow in the atmosphere boundary layer. Spectral techniques will be used to determine the effect and surface-air coupling change with the level of heterogeneity.
