Genetics and Precision Agriculture Research Unit

Greetings from the Genetics and Precision Agriculture Research Unit.  We conduct research in National Research Programs 301 (Plant Genetic Resources, Genomics, and Genetic Improvement), 216 (Integrated Farming Systems), and 206 (Manure and Byproduct Utilization).  Our genetic research is in cotton and we are working primarily in the plant breeding area of cotton to expand the germplasm base in cotton, to find genes for pest resistance, and to understand cotton at the molecular level.  Research in NP 206 includes control and management of human pathogens in waste from animal production, measurement and control of gas products from poultry houses, safely managing land application of swine effluent or poultry litter to watersheds with and without grazing animals, and safe utilization of animal waste as a fertilizer of forage crops and row crops.
