U.S. Grains Council
  • USGC Delegates Harvesting Information in the Middle East

photo1U.S. farmers have harvested their 2008 crop and are in the planning phase for this year's planting. In the meantime, U.S. Grains Council leaders consisting of barley, corn and sorghum producers are harvesting information in the Middle East this week as part of the 2009 Mediterranean Marketing Mission. America's Heartland, 'Journey of the Corn'

America's Heartland, a television show focused solely on educating U.S. consumers on the importance of U.S. farmers in providing food, feed, fuel and fiber for the United States and the world, is getting the message out about the importance of trade to U.S. agriculture. The U.S. Grains Council's communications department contacted America's Heartland to assist in telling the truth about trade. An America's Heartland filming team, plus Alan Tiemann, Nebraska Corn Board and USGC Board member, and his wife Lori traveled to China and Taiwan to follow the ‘Journey of the Corn' from their corn field in Seward, Neb. to overseas markets. Accompanied by USGC Senior Director of International Operations for Asia Mike Callahan, the 30 minute segment starts at the Tiemann farm and follows his corn crop to Taiwan to be used as a plastic substitute. They then travel to China to see how market development efforts are increasing the demand for feed grains, which expands opportunities for U.S. farmers.

Market Perspectives

January 9, 2009

letterIt was a rollercoaster week for corn as it started out weak, shot up, shot down and then ended the week just a couple of cents lower from where it ended last Friday. The week started out with mixed reports about the weather in South America and uncertainty about the direction of financial markets.
