Program Successes: Anti-Trafficking

USAID and our partners are committed to stopping trafficking. From 2000 to December 2005, the following was accomplished:

  • 296 traffickers arrested.

  • 56 traffickers convicted.

  • 170 trafficking survivors repatriated from different countries.

  • 110 internal trafficking survivors released.

  • Comprehensive database of trafficked persons created with information on all trafficking or attempted trafficking cases known to USAID partners.

  • Counseling and rehabilitation support provided to 248 survivors of trafficking.

  • Community level trafficking awareness campaign launched in 20 districts.

  • More than 30,000 persons, including government officials, participated in road marches to create awareness about trafficking and violence against women.

  • Clearinghouse and resource center established to collect, track, and share information on trafficking.

  • TV spots and a documentary film shown on both national and private television stations.

  • 13 focal sites set up in different districts to collect information and track cases; and

  • Anti-trafficking logo to be used by NGOs in national campaigns developed. (shown below)
