Moving-Boat Deployment — Software and Firmware

Links to the manufacturer's software and firmware are provided primarily as a service for USGS users. However, in some cases, access has also been provided for other agencies, with the manufacturer's permission. USGS users should also note that these links provide access to only manufacturer's software and firmware that the OSW recommends. In some cases, the version of the software provided here may not be the latest software available from the manufacturer. This is either because the latest software has not been tested by the OSW or because it has a known problem.

IMPORTANT: Beginning with the versions listed here, several of SonTek's programs were updated in support of Microsoft Vista. If you use any of the following programs, you MUST update all of them at the same time. You only need to update those files you use with your system.

RiverSurveyor v4.50 [Access Restricted, Software License Required] — Data collection and postprocessing software (Windows) for discharge data applications. Typically used for all RiverSurveyor data collection. Requires bottom-tracking ADP (with or without GPS).

RiverSurveyor v4.60 [Access Restricted, Software License Required, See Message Above] — Vista compatible data collection and postprocessing software (Windows) for discharge data applications. Typically used for all RiverSurveyor data collection. Requires bottom-tracking ADP (with or without GPS).

ViewADP v4.03 (12Jul05) [Access Restricted] — Provides ability to view and output data beyond what is available in RiverSurveyor. Can be useful for more detailed analyses.

SonUtils v4.00 (08Feb06) [Access Restricted] — Utility programs for "talking" directly to the instrument, downloading data from an internal recorder, and calibrating the internal compass/tilt sensor, etc.

SonUtils v4.20 (05Jul07) [Access Restricted] — Vista compatible utility programs for "talking" directly to the instrument, downloading data from an internal recorder, and calibrating the internal compass/tilt sensor, etc.

RiverSurveyor Firmware (Must be obtained directly from SonTek/YSI.)

WinRiver II v2.02 [Access Restricted] — New data collection and postprocessing software (Windows) for discharge data applications. WinRiver II provides a measurement centric design, an improved configuration wizard, and enhanced capabilities for reviewing data. It can be used for data collection and processing with Rio Grandes and Streampros. WinRiver II 2.02 contains minor bug fixes to version 2.01 and 2.00 (recommended in OSW Technical Memorandum 2008.01). Version 2.02 should be used for all new installations of WinRiver II and is a recommended upgrade for those with version 2.00 or 2.01 installed.

WinRiver v10.06 (08Oct2003) [Access Restricted] — USGS specific data collection and postprocessing software (Windows) for discharge data applications. Typically used for all Rio Grande data collection.

RDITools v3.06 (Sep05) [Access Restricted] — Utility software, including BBTalk (v. 3.06)BBList, BBMerge, etc.

WinADCP v1.12 (14Nov02) [Access Restricted] — Postprocessing software for ADCP data. Does not compute discharge, but provides graphical displays, access to raw data, binary to ASCII conversion, and binary to MATLAB file conversion that are not available in WinRiver.

Rio Grande Firmware v10.16 [Access Restricted] — Firmware version 10.16 fixes a bug in water mode 12 that could occur in a narrow range of conditions. Most users may not have experienced this bug, but upgrading to 10.16 is recommended.

StreamPro Software v3.31 (20Feb08) [Access Restricted] — Discharge data collection and processing software for the StreamPro. This software includes both the moving-boat method and the section by section method. A license for the section by section method must be purchased separately to activate those features. For more information on the section by section method see Mid-Section Measurements. NOTE: This version requires the Windows Mobile 5 operating system and is not compatible with iPAQ 5500, iPAQ 4700, or RECONS runing Windows Mobile 2003. This version also has new SxS keys. If you purchased a previous SxS key contact TRDI for an updated key.

StreamPro Software v3.20 (16Mar06) [Access Restricted] — Discharge data collection and processing software for the StreamPro. This software includes both the moving-boat method and the section by section method. A license for the section by section method must be purchased separately to activate those features. For more information on the section by section method see Mid-Section Measurements. NOTE: This is the last supported release for PocketPC's running Windows Mobile 2003. Windows Mobile 5 users should download the newest release above.

StreamPro Firmware v31.04 (05Oct05) [Access Restricted] — This firmware version contains the low-noise mode. The low-noise mode has not been fully tested by the USGS OSW. If problems are biases are observed using the low-noise model please contact Mike Rehmel.

 

USGS Software

WinRiver 10.06 Utility Software

These utility programs can be linked to the WinRiver 10.06 menus (see documentation below). To report problems with these utilities contact Mike Rehmel.

RGTest v1.01 — Utility program that automatically runs and logs diagnostic tests with RDI ADCP's.

PSCal v1.00 — Utility program for pressure sensor calibration on RDI ADCP's equiped with a pressure sensor.

CompCal v1.00 — Utility program for performing and logging compass calibrations for RDI ADCP's.

Matlab Utility Software

EDI v2.1 — EDI facilitates easy use of an ADCP discharge measurement for computing the locations and associated depth and water velocity for collecting Equal-discharge-increment method sediment and water-quality samples.

LC v1.6 — The LC program automates the application of the loop method for correcting discharges measured using bottom track with a moving bed present. UPDATE: Version 1.6 adds additional quality checks on bottom tracking and the compass calibration. Additional messages are also provided to explain why a correction is not recommended.

SMBA v4.40 — Stationary Moving-Bed Analysis (SMBA) computes the dot product of the bottom track vector onto the unit water vector and determines the moving bed velocity in the upstream direction relative to the water velocity vector. This program is applicable to all stationary moving bed test but is required to accurately assess a moving bed test made with a Streampro where the Streampro was swimming back and forth at the end of the tether. UPDATE: Version 4.40 corrects a bug that would allow a negative moving-bed and modifies the handling of multiple moving-bed test to a true linear regression approach.
