Research Project:
TRANSGENES FOR CONTROL OF INSECT PESTS IN COTTON (SYNGENTA)
Location: Genetics and Precision Agriculture Research
Project Number: 6406-21000-010-17
Project Type:
Trust
Start Date: May 01, 2002
End Date: Apr 30, 2006
Objective:
To evaluate the effectiveness of experimental transgenic cotton lines, constructs, or events developed by Syngenta Company containing one or more transgenes for control of selected cotton insects.
Approach:
Selected cotton lines will be grown in field plots and artificially infested with cotton pest species larvae and also grown in plots free of these larvae. Laboratory assays will also be conducted with several species of larvae. Data will be collected to assess the effectiveness of the transgene(s) for control of the primary target pests. The various transgene(s), constructs, or events will also be evaluated for effects on agronomic and fiber propeties. Effectiveness of transgenes in different cotton lines will be measured to determine if line by interactions exist.
