West Virginia company settles chemical release reporting violations (10/24/08) EPA announced that Kidde-Fenwal, Inc. has settled alleged violations of federal toxic chemical reporting at two plants located in Ranson, W.Va. Press Release

EPA settles PCB violations at Easton, Pa. facility (10/24/08) Flaw, Inc. has agreed to pay a $49,555 civil penalty to resolve alleged violations of federal regulations of polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs). Press Release

Baltimore-area gas stations settle clean air violations (10/23/08)The stations have agreed to pay civil penalties and come into compliance with Clean Air Act regulations for a variety of alleged violations that could release harmful volatile organic compounds into the air. Press Release

EPA recognizes Allegheny County, Pa. group for volunteer service (10/16/08) Regional Administrator Donald S. Welsh honored the Southwestern Pennsylvania Household Hazardous Waste Task Force with the President’s Volunteer Service Award in recognition of the group’s work to organize hazardous waste events in western Pennsylvania. Carnegie Mellon University selected for EPA brownfields grant (10/16/08) The $900,000 grant will be used by the university in partnership with the Western Pennsylvania Brownfields Center to train representatives from up to 150 communities on how to reuse contaminated land. Press Release

EPA settles pesticides violations with Pine Grove, Pa. company (10/15/08) Paradigm, a manufacturer of chemicals including dry-cleaning products, will pay a $24,000 penalty. Press Release

EPA settles with Chesapeake, Va. company for violating federal pesticide law (10/15/08) Mareva, Inc. will pay a $27,000 penalty to settle alleged violations of the Federal Insecticide, Fungicide and Rodenticide Act (FIFRA). Press Release

EPA honors 10 environmental achievements (09/25/08) At a ceremony at the National Constitution Center in Philadelphia, EPA honored the winners of the 2008 Mid-Atlantic Environmental Achievement Awards--in Delaware, Maryland, Pennsylvania and Virginia--for making significant contributions to reduce pollution and/or protect public health and the environment.
