Democracy, Education, Muslim Outreach and Tsunami Reconstruction To Be Highlighted At Public Meeting On Development

WASHINGTON, DC - The Advisory Committee on Voluntary Foreign Aid's public meeting will be held tomorrow, May 25, 2005 at the National Press Club. U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) Administrator Andrew Natsios will deliver the keynote address on democracy and freedom at 9:00 AM. Following his presentation, James Smith, Acting Assistant Administrator in the Bureau for Economic Growth, Agriculture and Trade at USAID, will present the agency's new education strategy, followed by a panel discussion. The afternoon will feature concurrent panel discussions. The first will focus on Arab and Muslim Outreach, and the second will focus on Tsunami Relief and Reconstruction.

The Advisory Committee on Voluntary Foreign Aid (ACVFA) was established by Presidential directive after World War II to serve as a link between the U.S. Government and private voluntary organizations active in humanitarian assistance and development work overseas.
