The Committee on National Statistics , through the Panel on Estimates of Poverty for Small Geographic Areas, has published three interim reports in its ongoing study of the U.S. Census Bureau's program for producing estimates of poor school-age children. The reports convey the panel's advice to the Secretary of Education and the Secretary of Commerce on the appropriateness and reliability of the estimates for use in making allocations of federal funds under Title I of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act. The interim reports also include detailed evaluations of many aspects of the estimation process.
