The Region 3 eCycling Team is helping to recycle and reuse increasing amounts of end-of-life electronics.  And, we are making sure that more and more households and businesses use environmentally-sound practices to get rid of their old electronics.

What You Can Do!

If you are a household, a business, an institution, or a non-profit organization, find out how to manage your end-of-life electronics in a safe, environmentally-sound manner.

What We Are Doing

We are informing businesses, organizations, and the general public about the best ways to manage their unwanted electronics. We are also providing funding and other resources for collection programs throughout the Mid-Atlantic States.

Who We Are

The Region 3 eCycling Team is made up of representatives from EPA Region 3 and State environmental agencies in the Mid-Atlantic. The eCycling Team ran the Mid-Atlantic eCycling Pilot to show how federal, state and local governments -- partnering with the electronics industry -- could collect and recycle more electronics from citizens than if each were to do it alone. The 14-month long pilot yielded nearly 6 million pounds of unwanted electronics.

Electronics Collected in Region 3

In 2006, over 28.8 million pounds of electronic items were collected by the states of Delaware, Maryland, Pennsylvania, Virginia, West Virginia and the District of Columbia.   If the 28.8 million pounds (14,421 tons) are recycled or reused, then the environmental benefits equate to reducing emissions of 8,877 Metric Tons of Carbon Equivalent (MTCE) into the atmosphere, thus decreasing the amount of Greenhouse Gases (GHGs) that contribute to global warming.
