The Federal Employee Health Benefits (FEHB) program offers a choice of plans and options. The government pays a percentage of the cost for the insurance. There is no pre-existing condition clause or waiting period for this coverage. It may continue when you retire. For additional information, see http://www.opm.gov/insure/health/index.asp.

Under the Federal Employees Group Life Insurance (FEGLI) program, you will receive basic coverage when you begin work. Additional coverage is available. There is a cost for the insurance and you may elect not to receive it. For additional information, see http://www.opm.gov/insure/life/index.asp.

Federal and U.S. Postal Service employees who are eligible to participate in the FEHB program may also apply for the Federal Long-Term Care Insurance Program (FLTCIP). You must apply and be approved based on insurability. The coverage may continue when you retire. For additional information, see http://www.opm.gov/insure/ltc/index.asp.

If your appointment is for a period longer than one year, you are automatically covered unless you are eligible for coverage under the Civil Service Retirement System (CSRS). You will be covered by a Basic Benefit Plan, Social Security (FICA) and a voluntary 401-k style Thrift Saving Plan (TSP). TSP allows you to make tax deferred contributions and receive matching agency funds for part of it. For additional information on TSP, see http://www.tsp.gov/.

Annual leave is provided for vacations and other personal use. The number of hours earned will depend on your work schedule and the length of time you work for the government. For additional information, see the fact sheet,http://www.opm.gov/oca/leave/html/ANNUAL.HTM.

Full time permanent employees earn up to 13 days of sick leave annually. Part time employees earn leave on a pro rata basis. Time may be used for medical appointments, personal illness or injury and caring for sick family members. For additional information, see http://www.opm.gov/oca/leave/html/sicklv.htm.

There are ten (10) paid Federal holidays: New Year's Day; Martin Luther King, Jr. Day; Presidents Day; Memorial Day; Independence Day; Labor Day; Columbus Day; Veteran's Day; Thanksgiving Day; and Christmas Day. You must be in a pay status either the day before or after the holiday in order to be paid.

Although we have identified this position as one that could potentially allow you to work from an alternative location one or more days per week, there is no commitment or obligation to allow you to tele-work. The decision to allow you to telecommute will be dependent on administrative approval and the work assignments you receive.

The Child Care Subsidy Program applies to lower income employees whose children are between the ages of birth and 13, or disabled and under age 18, and are enrolled, or will be enrolled, in family child care homes or center-based child care. The child care must be licensed and/or regulated by State and/or local authorities.

By "sharing" a job, two individuals meet their needs and work at the highest level of effectiveness.

What should be included in your Application?

You may submit a resume, Optional Application for Federal Employment (OF-612) or other written application format of your choice. Whatever format is selected, be sure to provide all of the information requested below. If you are using the online Resume Builder, this information will be included when you create and submit a resume.

Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA) allow employees to increase their disposable income because the amounts they contribute are not subject to Federal income, FICA, State or local income taxes. The Federal Government offers both a Health Care FSA and a Dependent Care FSA. Employees can use the Health Care FSA for expenses that are tax-deductible, but not reimbursed by any other source, including out-of-pocket expenses and non-covered benefits under their FEHB plans. Some examples are non-covered dental services, lasik surgery, health plan deductibles, and co-payments and coinsurance. FSAs for dependent care are available for employees with dependent children or qualifying dependent adults when the care is necessary to allow the employee to work. For additional information, see
http://www.opm.gov/insure/pretax/fsa/index.asp
