Research Project:
DEVELOPMENT OF NOVEL MAIZE SEQUENCE ACCESS AND ANALYSIS METHODS FOR MAIZEGDB
Location: Corn Insects and Crop Genetics Research
Project Number: 3625-21000-051-01
Project Type:
Specific Cooperative Agreement
Start Date: Aug 03, 2007
End Date: Sep 30, 2010
Objective:
The goal of this SCA is to support collaboration with V. Brendel to make sequences accessible via MaizeGDB and to support joint analyses of maize sequences. V. Brendel will collaborate with MaizeGDB personnel to explore the maize gene space, both intellectually (publications) and from a database/web resource perspective (displays and links connecting ZmGDB, MaizeGDB, PlexDB, maizegenome.org, etc.).
Additional objectives for 2008-2009: Leverage the maize community's expertise to annotate the maize genome sequence (to become available in late 2008) with gene models and other features. Make these data available via MaizeGDB.
Approach:
Collaborator V. Brendel will: a. Prepare and make available a cleaned and annotated maize sequence set for inclusion in MaizeGDB on a monthly basis in advance of MaizeGDB's posted database update schedule. b. Deliver project data related to phenotypes (e.g., microarray probe data, Maize Ac/Ds Tagged Sequences, Maize RescueMu Tagged Sequences, and Maize UniformMu Tagged Sequences) to MaizeGDB. c. Lend guidance to the MaizeGDB team on their project to make a genome browser available at MaizeGDB with linkages to other maize genome browsers. d. Analyze the maize genome and (more specifically) the maize gene space for an increased understanding of how the maize genome functions. These findings will be reported via publication in peer-reviewed journals.
