Research Project:
STUDY OF RESISTANCE MANAGEMENT AND INJURY POTENTIAL OF LEPIDOPTEROUS PESTS TO TRANSGENIC COTTONS
Location: Southern Insect Management Research Unit
Project Number: 6402-22000-047-41
Project Type:
Specific Cooperative Agreement
Start Date: Sep 28, 2007
End Date: Nov 30, 2008
Objective:
The objective of this cooperative research project is the study of resistance management and injury potential of Lepidopterous pests to transgenic cottons.
Approach:
Collections of feral heliothines are key to assess their susceptibility to Bacillus thuringiensis proteins. Due to the fact that Tennessee Agricultural Landscape is unique among the cotton-producing belt, samples from this region offer a great opportunity to conduct behavioral and ecological research with these pests. This work can lead to a better detection of Bt resistance in feral Lepidoptera as well as the enhancement of the knowledge of heliothine¿s reproductive biology.
