Research Project:
CONTROL OF SOIL BORNE PATHOGENS IN GREENHOUSE PRODUCTION
Location: Crops Pathology and Genetics Research
Project Number: 5306-22000-014-03
Project Type:
Specific Cooperative Agreement
Start Date: Sep 30, 2005
End Date: Jun 30, 2010
Objective:
Search for, identify, and develop biologically sound and nonpolluting strategies for the efficacious control of root infecting pathogens in recirculating hydroponic cultural systems. Documents SCA with UC Riverside.
Approach:
Strategies include (i) the use of biosurfactant(s) for the control of zoosporic pathogens in recycled irrigation water, (ii) to identify the role of insects as a vector for the introduction and spread of Phytophthora and Pythium spp. and bacterial plant pathogens in greenhouses, (iii) to continue research on the development of Beauveria bassiana as a biopesticide for the control of shore flies, fungus gnats and moth flies in greenhouses, and (iv) to verify the efficacy and identify the mechanism of disease suppression following the application of nitrogen stabilizers to recycled irrigation water. Documents SCA with UC Riverside. Formerly 5310-21000-008-02S (8/06). Formerly 5306-22000-013-13S (10/07).
