Pictured is the M/V Yellow Rose, currently in port at Galveston, Texas, loading 28,500 metric tons of hard red winter wheat. The wheat, a portion of the agricultural commodities released from the Bill Emerson Humanitarian Trust, is bound for the Iraqi port of Umm Qasr. The trip from Galveston to Umm Qasr is estimated to take 33 days. Once the M/V Yellow Rose departs port, the M/V Free Atlas will tie-up to load a further 28,000 metric tons of wheat for the people of Iraq. Once delivered and distributed, these two shiploads of wheat will provide enough wheat for about 4-5 million Iraqis for one month. Once these wheat shipments arrive in Umm Qasr, the commodities will be distributed by the World Food Program. The United States has already provided 110,000 metric tons of flour, rice, vegetable oil and beans (ordered, shipped or en route to the region) to assist with refugees and displaced Iraqis. The M/V Yellow Rose is owned by San Juan Navigation of Bainbridge Island, Washington.
