Research Project:
DEVELOPMENT OF HIGH YIELDING, MID-OLEIC, LOW-LINOLENIC, AND LOW-SATURATED SOYBEANS IN MATURITY GROUPS 0-II
Location: Soybean and Nitrogen Fixation Research
Project Number: 6645-21000-026-34
Project Type:
Specific Cooperative Agreement
Start Date: Apr 22, 2008
End Date: Feb 28, 2009
Objective:
a) Transfer mid-oleic, low linolenic, and low saturate genes into elite group 0-II materials adapted to more northern regions, and develop selection populations.
b) Increase existing early-maturing modified fatty acid lines developed in 2005-2007.
c) Develop populations with high oil concentration.
d) Evaluate lecithin properties of high oil lines that may contribute to improved bio-diesel production.
Approach:
Use N98-4445A as a mid-oleic source and add a new genetic source to alleviate problems with environmental variations. Use 1% linolenic and low saturate materials from other parental sources and focus on transferring the traits into high yielding group 0-II cultivars. Increase seed supply and release modified fatty acid lines that were previously developed.
