Research Project:
BT-RESISTANCE FREQUENCY DETECTION
Location: Southern Insect Management Research Unit
Project Number: 6402-22000-047-36
Project Type:
Specific Cooperative Agreement
Start Date: Aug 30, 2006
End Date: Mar 31, 2010
Objective:
The objective of this cooperative research project is the study of resistance management and injury potential of Lepidopterous pests to transgenic cottons.
Approach:
The only Heliothis virescens laboratory colony that is resistant to proteins expressed by transgenic cottons is maintained in the entomology department of North Carolina State University under the care of Dr. Fred Gould. These important insect colonies can serve to further characterize the physiological mechanisms in Bacillus thuringiensis resistance. This work can lead to a better detection of Bt resistance in feral Lepidoptera.
