Mission:
The mission of this unit is basic and applied development of new and improved citrus scions and rootstocks, and cultural and management systems that combine: (1) improved yield potentials; (2) improved quality characteristics; (3) extended maturity season; (4) greater resistance to diseases, insects, and nematodes; (5) better soil adaptability; (6) greater tolerance of environmental stresses and reduced environmental impact. Development of basic genetic information on the cellular and molecular biology of citrus to reinforce conventional breeding. Conduct basic and applied research to enhance water quaility and water conservation in relation to horticultural crop production.
