Research Project:
APPLICATION OF MOLECULAR TECHNOLOGIES TO REDUCE ALFATOXIN ACCUMULATION IN VIRGINIA-TYPE PEANUTS
Location: Crop Genetics and Breeding Research
Project Number: 6602-21000-022-01
Project Type:
Specific Cooperative Agreement
Start Date: Aug 20, 2007
End Date: Sep 20, 2009
Objective:
Screen F2 segregating populations derived from crosses between A. cardenasii-derived low-aflatoxin producing germplasm lines and high-aflatoxin producing cultivars, with candidate AFLP markers in order to identify markers closely linked to genetic factors controlling aflatoxin accumulation in these lines.
Approach:
Segregating populations will be tested for aflatoxin production using an invitro screening system.
This population will also be analyzed for presence or absence of candidate AFLP markers.
Genotypic and phenotypic data produced by these tests will be analyzed in order to identify AFLP markers linked to reduced accumulation of aflatoxin in A. cardenasii derived materials.
