Research Project: TO DEVELOP A LOW-COST NIR ABSORPTION DEVICE AND TEST IT FOR NONDESTRUCTIVE MOISTURE DETERMINATION IN PEANUTS

Location: National Peanut Research Lab

Project Number: 6604-41430-002-05
Project Type: Nonfunded Cooperative Agreement

Start Date: Sep 11, 2007
End Date: Aug 31, 2009

Objective:
Design and assemble a protype NIR instrument suitable for monitoring NIR (Near Infrared) absorption.

Approach:
An infrared source of required intensity will be selected. The NIR (Near Infrared) radiation as it is transmitted reflects by peanut samples of various known moisture content will be measured by IN-GA-AS detectors. A calibration curve will be developed from this data. From the calibration curve, moisture content of unknown samples will be estimated.
