The Libraries, Manuscripts and University Archives Division at the University of Washington holds primarily textual records, chiefly relating to the Pacific Northwest, especially western Washington. Materials focus on the following subjects: politics, public administration, urbanization, electric power development, mining, railroads, forest industries, international fisheries, environmental issues, labor movements, ethnic minorities, and the arts. The division also includes the University Archives with both institutional records and faculty papers. |

Dr. Belding H. Scribner (b.1921) was a physician, researcher and professor of medicine at the University of Washington who contributed to the development of hemodialysis techniques. |

The collection encompasses correspondence, annual reports, research notes, grant files, conference files, and minutes of meetings relating to Dr. Scribner's teaching and research activities, especially his role in the development of hemodialysis techniques. It also contains papers relating to the Seattle Artificial Kidney Center, where Dr. Scribner served as Chair of the Medical Advisory Committee from 1961 to 1964. |
