Objective:
Define growth characteristics and management requirements of purslane and American potato bean using field plot and controlled environment experiment techniques. Identify species of native Appalachian medicinal plants for their potential ability to inhibit egg hatch, larval development, and larval motility of the gastrointestinal parasite Haemonchus contortus.

Approach:
Mountain State University will obtain information about growth characteristics and management requirements for purslane and American potato bean by conducting field plot and controlled environment studies and will perform in vitro parasite assays to identify native Appalachian medicinal plants having potential to inhibit Haemonchus contortus egg hatching, larval development, and larval motility.
