	Arrow International first introduced its line of Cardiac Assist products in 1987. These products are used for the diagnosis and treatment of heart and vascular disease and to provide short-term cardiac assist following cardiac surgery, serious heart attack, or balloon angioplasty. Arrow's intra-aortic balloon catheters are interfaced with a fully automated pump that inflates and deflates the balloon at the distal end of the catheter in counter pulsation with a patient's heartbeat to assist cardiac function. In October 1999, Arrow International implanted our LVAS device, the LionHeart, in our first patient in Bad Oyenhausen, Germany. The LionHeart device is a totally implantable LVAD system designed for destination therapy. The LionHeart combines 30 years of engineering from Penn State University Hershey Medical Center and Arrow International.
