Abstract Arrow International first introduced its line of Cardiac Assist products in 1987. These products are used for the diagnosis and treatment of heart and vascular disease and to provide short-term cardiac assist following cardiac surgery, serious heart attack, or balloon angioplasty. Arrow's intra-aortic balloon catheters are interfaced with a fully automated pump that inflates and deflates the balloon at the distal end of the catheter in counter pulsation with a patient's heartbeat to assist cardiac function.

In October 1999, Arrow International implanted our LVAS device, the LionHeart, in our first patient in Bad Oyenhausen, Germany. The LionHeart device is a totally implantable LVAD system designed for destination therapy. The LionHeart combines 30 years of engineering from Penn State University Hershey Medical Center and Arrow International.
