Objective:
Establish multi-stakeholder Council on Sustainable Biomass Production (CSBP) which over the next 12-18 months will: Begin to assemble a clearinghouse of information for all stakeholders. Identify the core economic, environmental, and social issues that must be addressed in working towards a sustainable solution for large-scale deployment of biomass products and crops serving as feedstock for refineries. Develop appropriate means (e.g. principles, guidelines and/or measures) for addressing each of these issues. Establish a long-term CSBP structure and strategy broad support and use of consensus principles, guidelines and/or measures in the industry.

Approach:
Generate broad multi-stakeholder consensus on guidelines for sustainability to set this emerging industry on a course of continuous improvement with full support from growers and other agricultural interests, germplasm providers, social and environmental interests, oil companies and biofuel refineries.
