Research Project: CONVENTIONAL BREEDING INFORMATION TECHNOLOGIES TO CONTROL FHB IN WHEAT AND BARLEY Project Number: 0500-00053-002-33
Project Type: Grant

Start Date: May 03, 2004
End Date: May 02, 2009

Objective:
Establish a networking and facilitation office consisting of one full-time office manager and a half-time web programmer. Further investigate the inheritance mode and gene effects of FHB resistance in new lines. Map QTLs for resistance and identify the associated DNA markers in CJ 9306 and CJ9403. Analyze the correlation between the resistance and agronomic traits at classical and molecular levels. Accelerate development of commercially viable varieties and advanced generation lines of soft white winter wheat that are adapted to Michigan and resistant to FHB.

Approach:
Hire an office manager and web programmer to maintain the USWBSI 's web presence, maintain and enhance the Resource Management/Accountability Center, facilitate communication, manage and implement meetings and administer the development of the Initiative's annual recommended research plan and budget. Elaborate on the mode of inheritance as qualitative-quantitative traits and adequate genetic model and gene effects/interactions for FHB resistance in the newly resistant lines CJ9306 and CJ 9403. Detect one or several new markers. Reveal desired gene combinations and relationships between FHB resistance and other traits at classical and molecular levels. FY06 Title - Hosting the Manager of the USWBSI's Networking and Facilitation Office
