Research Project: EVALUATION AND ANALYSIS OF WEST ASIAN WHEAT LANDRACES AND OTHER NSGC GERMPLASM

Location: Aberdeen, Idaho

Project Number: 5366-21000-027-02
Project Type: Specific Cooperative Agreement

Start Date: Jul 02, 2003
End Date: Jul 01, 2008

Objective:
Identify traits for yield enhancement and resistance to diseases and insects in NSGC wheat landraces from West Asia. Evaluate NSGC germplasm for reaction to biotic and abiotic stresses, especially BYDV and other diseases endemic to the central Valley of California.

Approach:
Evaluation data, including reaction to BYDV, reaction to Russian wheat aphid, and agronomic, plant, and seed descriptors for about 7,300 recently acquired NSGC wheat accessions from West Asia will be assembled by UC Davis personnel and submitted for entry into GRIN. The passport and evaluation data will be subjected to principal components and other analyses for genetic diversity to assist in identifying core sub samples of the collections, and gaps in the collections. NSGC accessions will be evaluated for reaction to BYDV and other endemic diseases and stresses in field nurseries at Davis, California. Data will be assembled and submitted for entry into GRIN.Documents SCA with UC Davis. Formerly 5366-21000-020-07S 6/03. Formerly 5366-21000-022-05S 4/08.
