Research Project: DEVELOPMENT OF ARBOVIRUS DIAGNOSTIC ASSAYS USING MASS SPECTROMETRY

Location: Laramie, Wyoming

Project Number: 5410-32000-014-14
Project Type: Specific Cooperative Agreement

Start Date: Mar 22, 2004
End Date: Feb 28, 2009

Objective:
To develop sensitive spectroscopic diagnostic assays for detecting arboviruses in arthropod and mammalian cells and tissues.

Approach:
Virus infected cell and tissue samples of known vector arthropods and susceptible mammalian hosts will be prepared and used to develop mass spectroscopy detection methods. Methods will be optimized for sample preparation and detection. The new mass spectroscopy method will be validated using accepted PCR techniques to confirm the presence of target viruses.
