Research Project: INFLUENCE OF SURROUNDING CROPS ON LYGUS INFESTATIONS IN COTTON

Location: Shafter, California

Project Number: 5303-21220-003-09
Project Type: Reimbursable

Start Date: Jan 01, 2006
End Date: Dec 31, 2007

Objective:
To monitor Lygus and its natural enemies in time and space using a rigorous statistical framework and to determine the relative importance of host-plant distribution for Lygus infestations in cotton.

Approach:
We have cooperated with growers and PCAs to utilize commercial fields. Sweep-net samples of contiguous fields will be taken every week for 10 weeks. Crop condition, irrigation, weather, and pesticide treatments will also be recorded. This will provide a data set over space and time. Multivariate analysis and spearman correlation tests will determine associations among insects and crops through space and time. A simulation model will also be used to analyze the ability to predict Lygus populations at the landscape level. Documents Reimbursable with Cotton, Inc. Log 29729.
