Research Project:
GEODATABASE DEVELOPMENT FOR THE CEAP NATIONAL ASSESSMENT
Location: Grassland Soil and Water Research Laboratory, Temple, Texas
Project Number: 6206-13610-006-28
Project Type:
Specific Cooperative Agreement
Start Date: Sep 15, 2007
End Date: Sep 30, 2008
Objective:
Develop a GIS based geodatabase for CEAP cropland and rangeland assessment that includes topography, soils, land use and management, point sources, and atmospheric deposition. The system will provide input to the SWAT (Soil and Water Assessment Tool) and APEX (Ag Productivity EXtendor) models. The system will also spatially display model output.
Approach:
Databases will be assembled in ArcGIS format using the ArcHYDRO extension for large-scale geo-referenced data. The system will be automated so new data, such as new land use maps and more current climate data, can be easily added. We will also work closely with NASA to utilize near real-time land use, leaf area, and evapotranspiration data derived from NASA satellites.
