Research Project: FOREIGN SURVEYS FOR BIOLOGICAL CONTROL AGENTS OF WATERHYACINTH

Objective:
1. Survey for natural enemies of waterhyacinth in its native range 2. Identify new agents, develop rearing techniques for colonization in the laboratory, and initiate preliminary host range studies 3. Collect and ship approved agents to IPRL

Approach:
Travel and survey regularly, especially in areas not previously surveyed, collect, catalogue, and colonize natural enemies. Send voucher specimens to taxonomists to confirm identities. Conduct basic no-choice studies to assess relative specificity of agents. Hand carry or ship agents directly to IPRL.
