Research Project: EVALUATION OF FIELD-LEVEL MODELING AND DATA USE FOR THE CROPLAND COMPONENT OF THE CEAP NATIONAL ASSESSMENT

Location: Crop Systems & Global Change

Project Number: 1275-61660-004-15
Project Type: Specific Cooperative Agreement

Start Date: Aug 01, 2006
End Date: Jun 30, 2011

Objective:
The objective of this cooperative agreement is to evaluate the models, databases, and preliminary results to determine how the estimation of the benefits of conservation practices at the national and regional level can be improved for the CEAP cropland national assessment. We will assess the adequacy of the inputs of the cropland models (APEX), evaluate simulations against measured data and evaluate the extent to which recent research findings are represented by the model.

Approach:
Datasets compiled by the NRCS and developers of the APEX model will be assembled and evaluated. Simulations will be prepared and the results compared to measured data. The adequacy of the model to represent the simulated locates will be assessed. We will also investigate the impact of incomplete input data coverage on simulation results. Similar models will also be run using the same input data to investigate different modeling approaches.
