Research Project: DIETARY REFERENCE INTAKES RESEARCH SYNTHESIS Project Number: 0204-41510-001-05

Objective:
The Institute of Medicine (IOM) will convene a two-day workshop to engage expert research scientists and nutrition practioners from government, academia, and industry and others in discussion of issues related to research and research gaps in developing and advancing the Dietary Reference Intakes.

Approach:
The workshop will draw on a compilation of the research needs prepared as part of the proposal. The workshop summary report and comiled research database together provide a research synthesis that will facilitate the work of federal nutrition program and policy officieals in the U.S. and Canada and their identification of research priorities and progress in achieving them. There will be regular interaction with representatives of the sponsoring agency/agencies; A database of synthesized research recommendations as a dissemination activity will be developed and refined; A Compilation database and workshop summary will be prepared.
