Research Project: UTLIZATION OF INTERSPECIFIC INBRED BACKCROSS LINES TO IMPROVE RESISTANCE TO WHITE MOLD IN COMMON BEAN GERMPLASM

Location: Sunflower Research

Project Number: 5442-21220-023-56
Project Type: Specific Cooperative Agreement

Start Date: Jun 01, 2008
End Date: May 31, 2009

Objective:
Utilize backcrossing techniques and known molecular markers linked to resistant QTL to introgress resistant genes into commercially valuable Middle American germplasm.

Approach:
We will utilize backcrossing techniques to introgress QTL that contribute to resistance in two lines from the interspecific IBL population into commercially valuable Middle American germplasm (USPT-WM1) using tandem phenotypic selection using the Petzolt and Dickson Straw Test and genotypic selection using molecular markers linked to resistant QTL.
