Research Project:
EFFECTS OF NET PRIMARY PRODUCTIVITY AND RESIDUE REMOVAL ON SOIL CARBON AND NITROGEN TRANSFORMATION
Location: Pendleton, Oregon
Project Number: 5356-13210-002-03
Project Type:
Reimbursable
Start Date: Oct 01, 2007
End Date: Jun 30, 2010
Objective:
Evaluate how soil C and N cycles respond to wheat production with and without residue removal compared to dedicated biomass energy crop production in the intermediate rainfall zone of the Columbia Plateau.
Approach:
A small-plot experimental with wheat, canola, and switchgrass will be conducted in the intermediate rainfall zone of the Columbia Plateau region. A solid set sprinkler system will be used to create low, moderate, and high productivity levels. Sensor-based and physical measurements including soil moisture and temperature, CO2 and O2 flux, soil organic C and other soil properties will be used to calculate C and N budgets for various production and biomass removal systems. Create a range of crop productivity using supplemental irrigation with corresponding. Documents Reimburseable with WSU (NRI). Log 33190.
