Research Project:
SPATIAL POPULATION DYNAMICS AND OVERWINTERING BIOLOGY OF THE GLASSY-WINGED SHARPSHOOTER
Location: Crop Diseases, Pests and Genetics
Project Number: 5302-22000-008-17
Project Type:
Specific Cooperative Agreement
Start Date: Sep 30, 2003
End Date: Sep 15, 2008
Objective:
Identify specific environmental factors and host plant utilization patterns that influence the spatial population dynamics and overwintering success of GWSS in California. Develope microarray technology for Xf detection.
Approach:
The seasonal population dynamics and overwintering survival of GWSS populations will be determined in agricultural areas of California. Adult GWSS feeding behavior and survival in climate-controlled growth chambers will be characterized to determine the threshold for feeding activity as affected by different hosts and temperature regimes. Microarray and PCR detection of Xylella fastidiosa in susceptible crop and non-crop plant species and insect vectors. Documents SCA with UC Riverside. Formerly 5302-22000-005-11S (10/05) and 5302-22000-007-02S (5/07).
