Research Project: MONITORING OF SWEETPOTATO FIELDS IN THE MISSISSIPPI DELTA FOR PHYLLOPHA SPP. AND SWEETPOTATO WEEVIL, CYLAS FORMICARIUS

Location: Southern Insect Management Research Unit

Project Number: 6402-22000-045-07
Project Type: Specific Cooperative Agreement

Start Date: Aug 26, 2003
End Date: Aug 26, 2008

Objective:
The objective of this cooperative research project is to monitor sweetpotato fields in the Mississippi Delta for damaging Phyllophaga spp. and sweetpotato weevils, Cylas formicarius.

Approach:
Pheromone traps will be baited with blends of two amino acit methyl esters and monitored throughout the sweetpotato growing season. Modified boll weevil traps will be baited with a single component sweetpotato weevil pheromone and monitored throughout the season. In addition, specimens collected in the traps will be identified by the cooperator and the seasonal abundance of these species will be recorded.
