We currently have a position open for a Research Microbiologist/Research Molecular Biologist.
Duty Location: 1 vacancy - Albany, CA.
MAJOR DUTIES: The incumbent is a microbiologist or molecular biologist involved in development of assays for detection, identification, quantification and genotyping of bacterial pathogens and biological toxins (protein or DNA) present in complex samples, such as food matrices and environmental samples and high resolution genotyping methods for assessing the phylogeny of bacterial strains isolated from humans, animals or environmental samples. Next generation DNA sequencing data will be analyzed by bioinformatics to identify optimal DNA signatures and virulence factors for identification of pathogens or toxins and for development of novel fingerprinting methods for source-tracking and epidemiology. The incumbent defines approaches and plans experimental procedures on aspects of the project involving: (i) DNA sequencing and bioinformatics approaches for identifying appropriate genetic signatures for specific identification of pathogens and toxins, (ii) processing food and environmental samples to preserve and concentrate target pathogens or toxins, (iii) modification of current detection methods for rapid analysis of food samples and environmental, (iv) bioinformatics approaches for analyzing next generation sequence data, and (v) development of high-throughput methods for detection of multiple targets.
OPEN PERIOD: Thursday, October 30, 2008 to Monday, December 01, 2008
