Research Project:
INTEGRATED MANAGEMENT STRATEGIES & BIOLOGY OF BUD MITES IN OREGON AND WASHINGTON VINEYARDS
Location: Horticultural Crops Research
Project Number: 5358-22000-032-08
Project Type:
Grant
Start Date: Aug 29, 2006
End Date: Sep 30, 2009
Objective:
1. To correlate the presence, seasonal phenology and damage caused by bud mites with economic crop losses in Oregon and Washington State vineyards.
2. To determine the developmental biology of bud mites under constant temperatures.
Approach:
Initially, a minimum of eighteen vineyards from a minimum of three grape-growing areas in this region will be selected. These vineyards will be selected on the basis that they had a history of bud mite infestation. Data from the different ecological regions should give us an idea of differences in unique environmental circumstances in each area. In each vineyard, twenty evenly spaced plots, each consisting of five adjacent vines will be selected. We plan to determine the on-vine phenology of bud mite populations throughout the season. Descriptive statistics will be used in order to describe population increase of both mites and natural enemies (if present) throughout the season. Documents Grant with Oregon State University.
