Objective:
In FY-90 Congress provided $78,100 with an additional $346,500 in FY91 to
establish an Animal Health Consortium for development and transfer of
animal health and production technology to commercial companies. AHC was
incorporated as a subdivision of the BRDC in FY91. AHC will support animal
health care research.
Approach:
Assume responsibility to assure the grant funds are used to support animal
health care research to develop technologically more efficient
bioproduction systems capable of producing greater diversity of useful
products. Initial programs will focus on animal health care to develop
technology and/or product opportunities that have the potential to improve
animal health and production efficiency in swine, dairy cattle, beef
cattle, sheep and poultry. This includes therapeutics used in animal
health and biologicals for a diagnosis and prevention of disease in
production and companion animals. AHC will be designed to foster private
sector/federal laboratory/academic cooperative research. 11/92 changed
