Washington, D.C. - On behalf of the U.S. Agency for International Development, I am pleased to send warm greetings to all those observing Kwanzaa.

Kwanzaa celebrates the joy of family and the heritage of African-American ancestry by focusing on the Nguzo Saba, the seven principles of unity, self-determination, collective work and responsibility, cooperative economics, purpose, creativity, and faith.

During this holiday season, let us all renew our commitment to our families and communities, and let us always remember the importance of promoting human dignity and progress in Africa and throughout the world.

The American people, through the U.S. Agency for International Development, have provided economic and humanitarian assistance worldwide for nearly 50 years.
