Research Project: RUSSIAN WHEAT APHID - PLANT INTERACTIONS

Location: Wheat, Peanut and Other Field Crops Research

Project Number: 6217-22000-013-08
Project Type: Specific Cooperative Agreement

Start Date: Aug 15, 2007
End Date: Jul 01, 2012

Objective:
The objective(s) of this cooperative research project is to characterize the interaction of Russian wheat aphid biotypes with host plant resistance in cereals.

Approach:
The salivary components of RWA biotypes will be collected from artificial diets and biochemically characterized. Phloem constituents from resistant and susceptible plants fed upon and not fed upon will be collected and biochemically characterized. The findings from this research will provide fundamental information on how the feeding of Russian wheat aphid interacts with resistant and susceptible plants to cause plant damage.
