Research Project: IMPROVED AND CONTINUED DEPLOYMENT OF PREDICTION MODELS FOR FHB AND INTEGRATION OF INOCULUM AND HOST RESISTANCE INTO PREDICTION MODELS Project Number: 0500-00053-002-46
Project Type: Grant

Start Date: Apr 27, 2006
End Date: Apr 26, 2008

Objective:
Project 1: Provide growers and the agricultural industry with timely and reliable disease prediction for FHB. Project 2: Further improve model accuracy by describing the relationship between inoculum and weather and more fully integrate this data into the model.

Approach:
Project 1: Add new features to the forecasting system to enhance functionality and usability. Increase resolution of risk maps, integrate risk maps to better summarize disease risk over days, and use weather forecasts to enhance the ability of the system to provide early warnings of disease epidemics. Assess the accuracy of the system in diverse cropping systems of six states. Project 2: Examine the interactions between inoculum, weather and many of the newly available means of management of FHB. FY06 Projects: 1. Improved and Continued Deployment of Prediction Models for Fusarium Head Blight. 2. Integrating Inoculum and Host Resistance into Prediction Models for Head Scab.
