Research Project:
METABOLOMICS: CHARACTERIZING FRUIT WITH CHEMISTRY
Location: Wenatchee, Washington
Project Number: 5350-43000-005-14
Project Type:
Trust
Start Date: Jul 01, 2008
End Date: Jun 30, 2009
Objective:
Characterize the impact of common postharvest practices (temperature, cold storage, controlled atmosphere, DPA, SmartFresh) on identity, concentration, and metabolism chemicals in apples. Identify dynamics of fruit constituents and relate the changes to the development of external and internal fruit physiological disorders. Create a mass spectral library documenting components found in apple peel.
Approach:
Apples will be stored under different temperature and atmosphere storage conditions and treatments know to affect storage longevity and quality. Metabolic characterization and evaluation studies of these will be performed using GC/MS and LC/MS to uncover and characterize new metabolites. Treatment induced changes in metabolism will be monitored to indicate how storage may affect postharvest behavior. Documents Trust with WA Tree Fruit Research Commssion. Log 35191.
