Research Project:
IDENTIFYING GENES FOR RESISTANCE TO SEPTORIA TRITICI BLOTCH IN WHEAT
Location: West Lafayette, Indiana
Project Number: 3602-22000-015-01
Project Type:
Specific Cooperative Agreement
Start Date: Sep 25, 2007
End Date: Aug 31, 2008
Objective:
Perform field evaluations of resistance to Septoria in experimental wheat lines to determine their response to diverse strains of the pathogen in the local environment.
Approach:
Test experimental lines with the Stb2 resistance gene in field plots. Plots will be inoculated with an Indiana isolate of the pathogen and also exposed to natural inoculum. Lines will be scored for resistance or susceptibility and the results compared to previous tests in greenhouses to assess the potential durability of the resistance under agronomic conditions.
