Research Project: GRAZINGLANDS CEAP AND NRI TECHNICAL SUPPORT-PHASE II

Location: Range Management Research

Project Number: 6235-11210-006-66
Project Type: Reimbursable

Start Date: Jul 01, 2008
End Date: Dec 31, 2009

Objective:
1) Propose modifications to the National Resource Inventory (NRI) protocols for grazing lands to increase sensitivity to conservation treatment effects (CEAP assessment) through modification of sampling framework and integration and enhancement of aerial photos. 2) Produce training materials for NRI QA/QC. 3) Develop techniques for integrating a broad range of remote sensing technologies, including satellite-based and high resolution aerial photography. 4) Initiate development of an integrated approach to empirical and process-based scaling.

Approach:
1a)Complete analysis of FY07 project imagery & compare with ground data; complete air photo and ground data acquisition at a total of 6 locations, representing as much of the variability in US grazinglands as possible; complete air photo and ground data acquisition for a temporal sequence at one of these sites; complete an analysis of NRI acquisition window length vs. ground data acquisition dates. 2a)Revise (subject to NRCS recommendations) and deliver NRI training videos initiated in FY07, and initiate development of a plan for creating generic on-line training tools to complement the videos.
