Research Project: IN VIVO EFFECTS OF MHC 1 DOWN REGULATION IN HERPES VIRUSES

Location: Avian Disease and Oncology Laboratory

Project Number: 3635-31320-008-11
Project Type: Specific Cooperative Agreement

Start Date: Sep 21, 2007
End Date: Sep 30, 2008

Objective:
1. Perform work involving MHC class I down regulation by the generated mutants viruses. 2. Perform MHC class I pulse-chase experiments and peptide transport if time permits.

Approach:
Michigan State University will obtain MDV-BAC vectors that contain the mutant MDV genome. Genes with the potential to alter MHC class I expression will be tested by infecting chicken OU2 cells and monitoring their effects on MHC class I expression. Viruses lacking the ability to down regulate MHC class I will be tested for vaccine potency.
